Abstract

Diaphragm pump is widely used in many fields, especially in urea selective catalytic reduction (Urea-SCR) system. For studying the dynamic characteristics of an umbrella-type port valve used in a diaphragm pump, a three dimensional (3D) fluid structure interaction (FSI) model was proposed. Based on the FSI model, the deflection of the valve during the suction process was calculated. The opening lag angle of the valve was also calculated. To validate the simulation results, a test rig for prototype pump test was manufactured. The flow deviation between the simulation and the experiment results under different pump speed is less than 7.8%, and the opening lag angle of the valve decreases when the pump speed increases. Based on the simulation results, the maximum valve lift during the suction process is 0.94 mm. The experimental results prove that the theoretical model proposed is effective.
