Abstract

For many years in building construction industry, the concrete structures have attentive on the make use of steel reinforcement for transfer of tension and shear forces. Lap splicing is the traditional method of connecting steel reinforcement bars since for many years. On the other hand, splicing of bars by lapping or welding has its imperfections like inadequate length of laps, time consumption, failure in joints, low standard welds, increase manual and machinery cost, etc. To overcome the issues stated above, a replacement technique for splicing reinforcing bars has inherit practice. Present paper is specializing in performance of reinforcement connections in concrete structures. The utilization and applicability of reinforced couplers as an alternate to lap splices would conquer reinforcement congestion problems and increase strength of structure. Reinforced couplers not only give strength to joints but also confirm as a cost-effective for connections of two steel bars.
