Abstract

Objective To investigate the Cryptosporidium infection situation in cattle in Shanghai. Methods Cattle feces were collected from five different farms at three districts of Fengxian,Jinshan and Qingpu in Shanghai.DNA was extracted from feces after filtration and precipitation, and nested-PCR based on 18S rRNA gene and sequencing were used to genotype the Cryptosporidium positive samples, then the Cryptosporidium species was identified, and the infection rate and proportion were calculated. Results In total, two hundreds and four individual fecal samples were collected from Fengxian(123),Jinshan(43) and Qingpu (38),among which 36 samples were positive of Cryptosporidium, with the positive rate of 17.65%,most of them belonged to Cryptosporidium andersoni (94.44%,34/36),while a few belonged to Cryptosporidium bovis (5.56%,2/36).Conclusion Cryptosporidium andersoni was the major species infecting cattle in the areas investigated,it was a potential threat to public health.
