Abstract

As for color applications, color shift for different display system is an extremely important issue in the color industry and visual communications, and the gamma of a display system is one of the anchor points for color appearance of images on the screen of a display. In this paper, color shifts for different gamma of a display system were measured in new uniform color space based the color appearance model CIECAM02 and compared with ones in the CIELAB color space. Experiments of visual evaluations and theoretical calculations were conducted on an image of the Macbeth Color Checker with 24 blocks of color for visual evaluation and 4913 test samples for calculation of color difference on a computer system with LCD display at three system gamma 0.8, 1.0 and 1.2. Calculation and evaluation results show that evaluation of color different in the uniform color space based on CIECAM02 has better performance than the CIELAB for display colors, and that average color difference is about 3.5 at discrepancy 0.2 of system gamma and about 7.0 at discrepancy 0.4, and maximum color difference is about 9.0 at discrepancy 0.2 of system gamma and about 16.0 at discrepancy 0.4 in DeltaE'color difference unit of CAM02-SCD.
