Abstract

Ce-doped LnMnO 3 ( Ln = La , Nd) films fabricated by laser molecular beam epitaxy technique were examined with the intention being to investigate the effect of the ionic radius of A-site cation on the physical properties. The realization of electron-doped manganites using La 1− x Ce x MnO 3 systems was found to be difficult even for thin films due to self-hole doping effects caused by cation vacancies and/or over oxidization. It was found that there is significant difference between La 1− x Ce x MnO 3 and Nd 1− x Ce x MnO 3 films in the microstructural and magnetic properties, indicating that Ce-doping into perovskite manganites can be enhanced by altering A-site cation.
