Abstract

The aerodynamic coefficients varying with wind attack angle of a typical iced quad-bundled conductor are investigated by both of wind tunnel test and numerical simulation method. The experimental and numerical results indicate that the aerodynamic characteristics of a sub-conductor of the four sub-conductors are different from those of the other sub-conductors due to the wake interference of the wind flow around the sub-conductors. Moreover, the variation laws of the aerodynamic coefficients with wind attack angle determined by the numerical simulation method are coincident with those obtained by the wind tunnel test, which demonstrates the availability applying the numerical simulation method to obtain the aerodynamic coefficients of iced conductors for the analysis of galloping of transmission lines.
