Abstract

X-ray K-emission spectra and quantum yield spectra of boron and nitrogen in cubic BN have been obtained. The results are comparable to the spectra obtained earlier of hexagonal BN. An analysis is presented of two variants of the superposition of spectra of boron and nitrogen of hexagonal BN into one energy diagram of electron composition in the crystal BN hex. The considerable influence of the function of transition probability P(ϵ) on the form and width of emission spectra as well as absorption spectra is noted. In this work the following values were obtained: width of energy gap of BN cub is (6·0 ± 0·5) eV: width of energy gap BN hex is (4·5 ± 0·5) eV: width of valence band BN hex is (20·8 ± 0·5) eV (variant I of the united spectra of boron and nitrogen) or (15·3 ± 0·5) eV (variant II); width of valence band BNcub is (15·4 ± 0·5) eV.
