Abstract

Work-related health and safety practices are fundamental characteristics for the well-being and benefit of any industrial worker. The main purpose of this study was to find out the existing condition of health and safety practices of workers engaged in sports goods manufacturing. This qualitative study was based on personal observations and the use of a close-end questionnaire. Three small scale sports goods manufacturing industries of District Jalandhar of Punjab state were selected for this study. Sample size included all the male workers engaged in these sports goods manufacturing industries. Results revealed that the required safety practices were not followed. Around 76% of workforce had no awareness about occupational health and safety. Mouth mask was the most used personal protective equipment by the workers but these masks were not as per the standards. The most frequent problem found among the workforce was cough (80.5%). Moreover, the health-related data of workers indicated that most of them suffered from various work-related health issues.
