Abstract

AbstractTall buildings are mostly subjected to predominate wind, and the effect of wind on building vary during cyclonic days. The major failure of tall buildings during cyclone occurs on the façade face (i.e. cladding) and leads to create discomfort to the occupancies. In the present scenario, it is important to investigate the actual wind loads acting on the tall building. Since, most of the wind engineering codes provides the pressure coefficient (Cp) only for a regular plan. This paper investigates the actual wind loads acting on the setback tall building. The simulation is carried using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with the help of turbulence model realizable k-ε. The analysis is carried for a particular wind angles 0˚ at a scaled wind velocity of 10 m/s. From the results, the mean pressure coefficient (Cp) is obtained for each face of the setback building and further pictorial representation the pressure contour on each face of the building is presented. Additionally, the physics of the wind flow behaviour around the setback are studied.KeywordsComputational fluid dynamics (CFD)Turbulence modelTall buildingWind loads
