Abstract
This paper describes a novel method for determining the wall shear stress of vertically vibrating particle beds. When a tube was immersed in a vibrating particle bed and held stationary, the surface level of the particle bed within the tube rose or fell and stabilized at a level different from that of the particle bed outside the tube. This difference in surface levels was used to estimate the wall shear stress.
