Abstract
A new type of tunable stretcher for ultra-short pulses is presented based on silica wires with subwavelength-diameters. Through proper design of the diameters of wires and the refractive indices of surrounding environment, we obtain large second-order dispersion and small higher-order dispersion, which are beneficial for pulses broadening around the operation wavelength. Analysis proves that 5-cm of such wires can broaden over 180 times for ultra-short pulses with 30-fs pulse-width. Tunable stretching ratio of stretcher is obtained by changing refractive indices of surrounding environment.
