Abstract

In this study, the thermomechanical stresses and deformations of a SiC-Graphite crucible which are generated when the crucible lifted by a crane were calculated by the finite elements (FE)- software, ANSYS. In the first stage of the work the geometrical- and FE-model of the crucible was created in accordance with the linear elastic behavior of the materials. The heat distribution on the crucible wall during the application was calculated by steady-state heat transfer analysis. Later a coupled structural analysis was carried out from the results obtained in heat transfer analysis and from the mechanical loads, which occurred after lifting the crucible. The distribution, intensity and direction of nodal stresses and displacements were determined from the analysis of the wall at a crucible containing molten metal, when lifted by a crane.
