Abstract

The fresh fruit of Hippomane Mancinella L. was found to contain a water‐soluble compound very sensitive to oxygen which gave the rubreserine reaction for physostigmine. Alcohol, ether, and petroleum ether extractions of the fruit were undertaken as preliminary steps to determine the toxic properties of the fruit.
