Abstract

The first study of noncramers Fe 2+ substitutional center in YAG by acoustic EPR is presented. Symmetry of the crystal field in the site of Fe 2+ localization was determined. Magnetic properties of the Fe 2+ ion ground state were measured: g ∥ = 4.815 ± 0.08, ΔB 1 2 = 75 ± 6 G . Using the measured g-factor, the value of the trigonal field constant δ was estimated. A simple theory of the Fe 2+ ground state is presented.
