Investigation of the status of nurses' statistical knowledge and its influencing factors

Abstract

Objective To learn the status of the nurses' statistical knowledge and the influencing factors in order to improve their statistical level accordingly.Methods A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate 72 nurses for their statistical knowledge and analyzed the influencing factors.Results Results showed that 55.56％ of the investigated nurses could performed simple statistic analysis,44.44％ nurses had limited statistical knowledge or were not know at all,and 93.05％ of the nurses had an urgent necessity to statistical knowledge.while 61.11％ of the nurses had not learned any statistical knowledge from their hospital for the resent 5 years.The factors that influencing their statistical knowledge were learned statistical knowledge,necessity to statistical knowledge,papers published,and school record (P ＜0.05).The factors that obstructed the nurses to learn statistical knowledge were busy (65.28％),hard to learn (69.44％),and no chance to learn (56.94％).Conclusions It is urgent to improve nurses' statistical knowledge,and the organizers should provide more chance for the nurses to improve their statistical knowledge in order to promote the development of nursing research.
