Abstract

Objective To investigate the status of the critical thinking ability in a three-A-grade-psychiatric nurses so as to study the influencing factors on nurses' critical thinking.Methods Totals of 222 nurses in Beijing Huilongguan hospital were investigated with the measurement scale of Critical Thinking Ability (CTDICV)and the results were observed.Results The average critical thinking score of psychiatric nurses was(278.05 ±27.58),and 43.3% nurses had positive critical thinking.The critical thinking score of teaching area nurses was (285.04 ± 25.58 )higher than common area (271.77 ±27.91 ),and the difference was statistically significant(t =3.679,P <0.01 ).The score of critical thinking was (288.07 ±27.15) in nurses with undergraduate education and that in nurses with junior college eduction was ( 279.15 ± 28.82 ),then compared with nurses that received technical secondary education (268.11 ± 19.99),difference was statistically significant(F =4.93,P <0.01).Multivariate analyses showed that gender was an important factor on the critical thinking score of psychiatric nurses,dimensions of thirsting for knowledge and cognitive maturity,and professional title was an important factor on thedimension of seeking for truth.Conclusions Nurses of teaching area nurses and high education generally have a higher critical thinking abilities,although critical thinking ability of psychiatric nurses exists insufficient.Working environment has an important effect on the cultivating critical thinking.
