Abstract

High-gradient magnetophoresis was used to monitor the spontaneous transfer between phospholipid vesicles and magnetoliposomes of dipentadecanoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DC 15PE) and of its conjugate with a biotinylated PEG molecule (DC 15-PEG-B). For the latter molecule, a half-time of 70 min was found, whereas DC 15PE did not move. The observed transferability of PEGylated phospholipids offers a unique method for generating Stealth ®-magnetoliposomes.
