Abstract

Objective To explore the sleep quality status of higher vocational nursing students. Methods Used Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to measured the sleep quality in 199 nursing students of the first grade and 222 nursing students of the second grade. Results The sleep quality status of higher vocational nursing students was relatively poor,with the PSQI total score of second grade was (7.19 ± 2.87 ) and that of first grade was (8.13 ±4.50). The scores of sleep time,hypnotic drug and daytime function barrier of first grade were significantly higher than that of the second grade [ (2.08 ± 1.63) vs ( 1.46 ±0.90), (0.22 ± 0.65) vs (0.09±0.32),(2.27 ±1.94) vs (1.71 ±1.01);t = -4.91, -2.47, -3.77,respectively;P 〈 0.05 or P 〈0.01 ]. While no significant difference was found in the sleep quality, sleep efficiency and sleep disorder of two grade students ( P 〉 0.05 ). Conclusions The sleep quality of three-years higher vocational education students is a serious problem, so it is important to pay attention and take effectively measures to improve the sleep quality of nursing students so as to enhance the overall quality of nursing students training.
