Abstract

Surface analysis of polymers which are widely used in our daily life and many research areas, is of primary importance for better understanding of their stabilities against various external effects. Thus in conjunction with this, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) was used to determine the surface topology of the γ irradiated poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) films. The films prepared by solvent casting were irradiated with various doses up to 237 kGy by 60Co γ rays at a dose rate of 15 kGy/h at ambient temperature in air and vacuum. Three dimensional surface topological images of the films have been obtained by AFM for both unirradiated and irradiated samples.
