Abstract

The induced photoluminescence from the surface of Nafion swollen in NaCl and KCl aqueous solutions of different concentrations has been experimentally investigated. A capillary electrode was used to measure the electrostatic potential profile in solutions as a function of the distance between the capillary and membrane surface. The data obtained made it possible to estimate the concentration ratio for the charged and neutral Nafion particles in the liquid layer adjacent to the membrane surface. In addition, the experimental results indicate manifestation of a peculiar ion effect in the interaction of K+ and Na+ cations with the Nafion membrane.
