Abstract

Kwangwoon Academy of Advanced Studies, Kwangwoon University, Seoul 137-701(Received 17 November 2010, in final form 1 December 2010)This work investigates the characteristics of a high-power pulsed plasma jet, which can be used fordiverse applications including biological applications. Most of the previous plasma jets for biologicalapplications were limited to low-power jets due to their being long-lasting plasmas. However,interesting results may be obtained by utilizing a pulsed high-power plasma jet in medical fields.In this context, a high voltage system was designed and utilized to generate a pulsed capillary-plasma jet with helium as a working gas. Two grooved sapphire blocks were used for the capillarywaveguide, and the operation pressure was varied from 150 to 300 Torr. This article presents theoperation properties of a pulsed plasma jet for medical applications.
