Investigation of the mumps outbreak in a school

Abstract

Objective To analyze the epidemiologic feature of mumps outbreak in a school of Beijing and assess vaccine effectiveness of mumps containing vaccine.Methods Descriptive epidemiological method was used to describe the epidemiological characteristics of this outbreak and vaccine coverage.Vaccine effectiveness was calculated by mumps attack rate of students.Results 15 students were infected and the attack rate was 2.4％.Coverage rate of one and two doses mumps containing vaccine were 82.4％ and 32.8％,separately.Vaccination time was more than 5 years in 93.5％ of students.Conclusions The main reasons of outbreak were low coverage of two doses vaccine and long time after immunization.To reduce mumps incidence and control outbreak,it was important to strengthen schools inspected vaccination certificate,improve vaccination rate,and carry out emergency vaccination timely and effectively.
