Abstract

1. The metrological characteristics of the electrical resistance of high-temperature resistance strain gauges in helium in the 20–550°C range have been investigated for the first time. In the first heating in helium VTR-450 resistance strain gauges have anomalous characteristics, which is apparently related to removal of oxygen and a disturbance of the closerange order in the palladium-silver alloys. 2. TTR LS-22-24 resistance strain gauges have similar temperature characteristics of resistance in air and in helium. The drift of the output signals of both types of resistance strain gauges in helium is close to zero and significantly less than in air. 3. TTR LS-22-24 resistance strain gauges are recommended for experimental service in helium up to 550°C and VTR-450 resistance strain gauges up to 500°C after a stabilizing heat treatment in helium.
