Abstract

The results of investigation of the reasons for the formation of cracks in welded joints in 20 K steel are presented. The nature of failure was determined by the methods of vacuum thermal etching in metallographic and fractographic studies of fracture surfaces. The intragranular nature of failure by the ‘cold cracking’ mechanism is described.
