Abstract

Mechatronic monitoring systems based on radar systems are widely used for the study of natural hazards, which include thunderstorm- hail clouds. Hail clouds are a complex polydisperse system of particles of different shapes and it is obvious that to improve the accuracy of detection and recognition requires the development of mathematical models and efficient algorithms to calculate the characteristics of the scattering of electromagnetic waves by particles of different shapes, taking into account various factors, in particular, the surface charge on the hail particles. The article is devoted to the actual problem-the development of a mathematical model for calculating the coefficients of attenuation, scattering and radar reflection of electromagnetic waves by spherical hail particles taking into account surface charges. It is shown that when the density of surface charges tends to zero, the obtained relations tend to the known formulas for neutral particles, and when the surface density of charges tends to infinity, they tend to the relations for perfectly conducting spherical particles.
