Abstract

1. The stepwise mechanism of the reduction of acetophenone in the presence of Rh and Co catalysts was investigated by the kinetic isotopic method. 2. In the presence of a Rh catalyst, methylcyclohexylcarbinol is formed primarily through the stage of methylphenylcarbinol, and ethylbenzene through the stage of methylphenylcarbinol, as well as directly from acetophenone. 3. In the presence of a skeletal Co catalyst, ethylbenzene is produced primarily through the stage of methylphenylcarbinol.
