Abstract

Structural and electrochemical studies have been undertaken on the vanadium bronze Fe x V 2O 5, prepared by a sol-gel process followed by ion-exchange. Using the electrochemical voltage spectroscopy (EVS) technique, an investigation of its electrochemical properties is presented. Three reversible insertion plateaus are present between 2.5 and 3.5 V [versus Li Li + ] corresponding to a faradaic yield of 1.8 moles of lithium per formula unit resulting in an initial energy density of 725 Wh/Kg. A high capacity retention is observed when cells are cycled between 3.75 and 1.9 V versus Li Li + at C 3 rate. 70% of the initial capacity was still maintained after 20 cycles.
