Abstract

The comprehensive properties of SBS-modified asphalt mixtures containing layer double hydroxides, including high-temperature stability, water sensitivity, fatigue resistance and low-temperature anti-cracking properties, were studied in this research. It is found that layer double hydroxides–SBS asphalt mixtures show higher retained Marshall stability, freeze-thaw-splitting strength ratio and dynamic stability both before and after ultraviolet aging. It means that the addition of layer double hydroxides to SBS-modified asphalt mixture increases its water damage resistance and rutting resistance. Layer double hydroxides–SBS asphalt mixtures show higher flexural strength and strain than SBS-modified asphalt mixture after ultraviolet aging. It means that the addition of layer double hydroxides improves the long-term low-temperature property of SBS-modified asphalt mixture. The fatigue life of ultraviolet-aged SBS-modified asphalt mixture is also slightly improved by addition of layer double hydroxides. It is concluded that the comprehensive properties of SBS-modified asphalt mixture can be improved by addition of layer double hydroxides because of its anti-ultraviolet aging effect.
