Abstract

All the prepared (CuO, Cd-CuO, Ba-CuO and Cd, Ba-CuO) photocatalyst were successfully synthesized by co-precipitation method and the samples were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV–vis DRS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Bruner-Emmett-Teller (BET), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and photoluminescence (PL) measurements . The photocatalytic activities of the samples were evaluated by the degradation of congo red (CR) in aqueous solution under visible light irradiation. The prepared photocatalyst showed optical absorption in the visible light area and exhibited excellent photocatalytic ability for the degradation of congo red (CR). The Cd and Ba have synergistic effect in the absorption of dye on CuO. Compared with Cd-CuO and Ba-CuO the Cd, Ba-CuO exhibits excellent visible light photocatalytic activity. The co-doped Cd, Ba-CuO nanoparticles showed good activity against Staphyllococcus aureus, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans.
