Abstract

1. The forces in foundation slabs and the contact stresses along their lower surface, which are computed with allowance for the stiffness of the superstructure, are virtually independent of the type of contact bed model assumed with a distributive capacity (with the exception of Winkler's model) and its computational parameters. 2. Conclusion No. 1 can be expanded with a small error to the case of a superstructure of zero stiffness, the loading of which is transmitted onto the slab via columns. 3. The question concerning the effect of the type of bed model on the forces in thin slabs of large area, which are subjected to a distributed load, requires special study.
