Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate possible associations between pathways of gene polymorphism UPK3A and general CAKUT. The sample was formed by 491 individuals being 229 (46.6%) cases and 262 (53.4%) healthy controls originated from the CAKUT ambulatory from Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Results The association of UPK3A with overall CAKUT and with the various phenotypes evaluated in this study was negative. However, the literature presents findings of association of UPK3A with several forms of CAKUT. UPK3A encodes an integral protein present in the urothelial plaque membrane, whose alteration would be implicated in VUR and renal hypodysplasia.
