Abstract
Abstract The broad band absorption in the visible and near infrared region of LiNbO3:Ti3+ is examined by measurement of the magnetic circular dichroism (MCD). By the method of ODMR we show that this MCD must be attributed to Ti3+. Comparing MCD and absorption bands we find that Ti accounts for most part of the absorption in our LiNbO3:Ti3+ samples. The possible nature of the transitions underlying absorption and MCD is discussed.
