Abstract

The selection of a high Q-factor stabilizing resonant system is the main problem encountered in designing high-stability microwave generators having low-level phase noise. For some time past, disk dielectric resonators (DR) with oscillations of azimuth type [i] made of lowloss dielectrics have been used as high Q-factor resonant systems. Of the known dielectrics, the single crystal sapphire has the lowest losses in the microwave band. For instance, the measured Q-factors of DR were 2.105 , 5.7"107 , and 6"108 at temperatures of 300~ 77~ and 4.2~ respectively [2].
