Abstract

In this paper, we report, synthesis of Zinc Sulphide (ZnS) Quantum Dots and its properties which were assessed through various characterization methods. Sol-Gel method using Zinc Nitrate and Sodium Sulphide was used to synthesizeZnS Quantum Dots. X-ray diffraction (XRD was used to assess the optical properties of ZnS Quantum Dots and UV-VIS spectroscopy confirmed the formation of cubic Zinc-Blende structure of ZnS which hada particle size of 1.74 nm. The bandgap of ZnS nanoparticles was determined using UV-VIS optical spectroscopy study, and it presented as a blue shift with respect to the bulk value indicating a strong quantum confinement effect. The antimicrobial activity was studied against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the results showed that the prepared nanoparticle exhibits good bactericidal activity.
