Abstract

Accurate load model is necessarily required because the loads behaviour influence the amount of reactive power required for voltage control studies in power system. This load model becomes more important especially for without grid connected isolated hybrid power system (IHPS). This paper investigates the performance of STATCOM as dynamic compensators with five different models of composite load. These composite load models are considered for five different participations patterns between dynamic and static load. Finally voltage and STATCOM reactive power responses are compared for these five different load models during step change in load reactive power and input wind power. The major emphasis in this paper is towards investigating the STATCOM performance for controlling system voltage with five different composite loads patterns having different dynamic load components by developing a reactive power voltage balance equation and simulink model of wind-diesel based IHPS.
