Abstract
The spectral-luminescent properties of 5-cyano-2,2,8,8,12,13,17,18-octamethylisobacteriochlorin (COMiBC), synthesized in the laboratory of Prof. A. Eschenmoser (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, Zürich), in n-hexane and benzene at room, liquid-nitrogen and liquid-helium temperatures have been investigated. At 4.2 K the quasi-line spectra of two forms of COMiBC in n-hexane have been obtained. A vibrational analysis was carried out and conclusions concerning the form of some normal modes are reported. A photoinduced NH rearrangement of the cis form of COMiBC into the trans form has been discovered.
