Abstract

Two white rot mold cultures, Polyporus BH 1 and P. BW 1, have been cultivated on whole bagasse substrate in a solid state system. Some factors influencing the bioconversion of bagasse, i.e. substrate digestibility and protein productivity, have been discussed here. Some important parameters were optimized, such as preculture preparation in salt medium with cellulosic substrate, and its utilization at 1 : 1.5, v/w (inoculum/dry substrate) ratio in SSF medium of pH 5.5 and 75% moisture content at 28°C produced a feed of improved digestibility and rich in protein content in only 8 days fermentation .
