Abstract
Pyroplastic deformation is a frequently faced problem in the production of whitewares, which have high degree of light transmission. Effective parameters for increasing the light transmission such as exceeding the amount of glassy phase and anorthite instead of mullite, increasing the pyroplastic deformation. In the present study, effect of crystal phases in the ‘’CaO’’ based glassy-matrix on the pyroplastic deformation was investigated. Wollastonite was used as ‘’CaO’’ source and the content of ‘’CaO’’ was raised in the chemical compositions linearly for determining the effect of CaO on the improvement of glassy matrix and crystalline phases. Pyroplastic deformation, light transmission and water absorption values were measured and developed phases were investigated by SEM/ EDX and XRD. Rate of the phases in the microstructure were calculated by Rietvelt method. The interaction between the composition and the phases were established and the results were evaluated. It has been concluded that wollastonite has positive effect on the final properties of whiteware such as water absorption and light transmittance without increasing the pyroplastic deformation value; by providing the correct equilibrium between the phases and composition of the glassy phase.
