Abstract

Location-based services (LBS) are one of the emerging technologies in the mobile, networking, and information services (Padmanaban, Int J Adv Remote Sens GIS 2:398–404, 2013 [1]). Users of LBS exchange information based on location like maps and navigation, location-based information, location tracking services, social networking, vehicular direction finding, and location-based advertisement. LBS users’ provide highly personalize information to the service providers like location information and personal identity. Location privacy and communication privacy are one of the key issues of LBS. A cryptographic technique is used for avoiding position tracking, secure information sharing, data integrity, and authentication in the mobile network. Location-based services are classified as trusted third party and without trusted third party that uses cryptographic approaches. Trusted third party model guarantees the privacy of the user in LBS. The main issue is that end users are not inevitably gratified by trusting intermediate entities. Trusted third party (TTP) free model can be taken as an excellent approach from all the existing ones for location privacy in LBS. The main aim of the paper is to give a comprehensive survey of location privacy and also proposed effective approach that guarantee the privacy of LBS users with improving scalability, minimum cost.
