Abstract

Objective To investigate the congnition of pain in medical staff of nephrology department so as to explore the method of improving their knowledge of pain.Methods Totals of 41 nephrologists and 51 nephrology nurses were selected and investigated with the questionnaire of Margo McCaffery pain knowledge and attitude.Results The rate of right answer was 44.20% among 92 medical staff,and the score of nurse on pain assessment,relieving pain methods and medicine,pain knowledge was ( 3.29 ± 1.01 ),( 2.88 ± 1.64 ) and ( 7.39 ± 2.09),respectively higher than that of doctors (2.59 ± 1.28 ),( 1.90 ± 1.09 ) and ( 5.56 ± 2.20),and the difference was statistically significant (t =2.969,3.277,4.079,respectively ;P < 0.05 ).There was no significant difference on the attitude of pain between nurses and doctors ( P > 0.05 ),and the score of pain knowledge was different among different education backgroud ( F =4.15,P < 0.05 ).No person gave right answer on the question of the possibility of addiction happening during three different drugs giving time,and 8 staff believed that acute using drugs was easier than short-period and long-period using drugs to be addictive.75% medical staff believed they knew little about the pain knowledge and 2.17% staff believed that they knew much about it during medical staff self-evaluate on the mastery of pain knowledge.Conclusions The pain contorl education and training should be provide for both nepherology and nephrology nurse to improve their attitude towards the treatment of pain,and to enhance their ability to manage pain.
