Abstract

The optical packet transfer time and bit error rate of a packet-by-packet optical routing configuration consisting of an electrically-tunable DBR laser and second-stage wavelength converters based on cross-gain modulation in the semiconductor optical amplifier is investigated. Using such a configuration, high-speed data routing of less than 10 ns was achieved. Error-free performance of optical routing operation was also realised.
