Abstract

The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigations of non-irradiated and gamma-irradiated Trommel Sieve Waste (TSW) have been carried out at room temperature. TSW is obtained during the process of manufacturing borax from tincal. In this paper, we aimed to study the magnetic properties of TSW before and after irradiation. The EPR spectrum of non-irradiated TSW showed a naturally present free radical EPR singlet, g = 2.0040 ± 0.0005, and six hyperfine lines of Mn 2+. After gamma-irradiation, it is observed that only the signal intensity has changed. Also, XRD analysis of non-irradiated and gamma-irradiated TSW has been performed to determine whether TSW is a crystalline material.
