Abstract

Two basaltic glass samples have been studied, one from the Masaya volcano in Nicaragua and one from the Villarrica volcano in Chile using 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy. The iron(II) to iron(III) ratio has been determined for each sample. The 80 K data shows some separation of the sites and is fitted allowing for discrete doublets.
