Abstract

Sicel Technologies' implantable dosimeter (DVS®) has been cleared by the FDA for use in monitoring delivered dose in breast and prostate cancer patients (1). Surgical clips and other implants can cause MRI imaging artifacts obstructing diagnostic evaluation (2, 3). In-vitro phantom studies have shown DVS can cause an artifact when imaged in a 1.5T field. These artifacts are due to the local magnetic field changes produced by the ferromagnetic properties of the implant. The resultant artifact is usually greater in size than the actual inclusion and can interfere with future diagnostic evaluation.
