Abstract

AbstractA microstrip‐fed low‐profile broadband circularly polarized rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) suitable for WLAN applications based on IEEE 802.11.a standards was designed and tested. In addition, a new iterative method for the estimation of resonance frequency with the consideration of the effect of the substrate was investigated in this article. The RDRA exhibits broadband and circular polarization (CP) by utilizing the asymmetrical offset feeding mechanism to excite two orthogonal degenerate modes ( and ). The RDRA provides the impedance bandwidths (|S11| < −10 dB) of 10.2% and the axial ratio (AR) bandwidth (AR < 3 dB) of 1.8%. Good agreements between the simulated and measured results have been obtained.
