Abstract

ABSTRACT Nowadays, an inductive power transfer (IPT) has the prodigious attention of researchers, since it has been an expedient and reliable way for electric vehicle (EV) battery charging. The mutual inductance (MI) is one of the crucial factors for effective power transfer in IPT system. Therefore, it is important to analyse the MI between the two coils. This paper explains the MI analysis of square-circular structure coupled coils with various misalignments. In addition, for detailed analysis, the MI is evaluated for with ferrite core and chassis and without ferrite core and chassis in FEM environment and hardware experiment. The obtained FEM, experimental result, and analytical results for without core and chassis are compared. Furthermore, a performance analysis has been carried between the existing and proposed coupled coils structures for series-series resonant IPT (SS RIPT) system towards EV battery charging application. The result of the comparison shows that the proposed system is more durable to disturbances and thus better for the EV battery charging application.
