Abstract

Abstract This investigative article presents the mechanical properties of three different combinations of natural fiber hybrid composites. Sisal, Kenaf, Aloe vera are the natural plant fibers chosen for reinforcement and Epoxy resin is chosen for the preparation of the hybrid composites. Three different arrangements of hybrid composites are prepared (1) Sisal + Kenaf + Aloe vera + Epoxy (2) Kenaf + Aloe vera + Sisal + Epoxy and (3) Kenaf + Sisal + Aloe vera + Epoxy by hand lay-up method and their tensile strength, flexural strength, impact strength, hardness are examined. The study reveals that higher property values of tensile strength, flexural strength, impact energy are obtained for Kenaf + Sisal + Aloe vera + Epoxy arrangement compared to the other two arrangements; higher hardness characteristics are obtained for Sisal + Kenaf + Aloe vera + Epoxy matrix than the other two arrangements. It is thereby concluded that the Kenaf + Sisal + Aloe vera + Epoxy hybrid composite has got good tensile property which makes it suitable for automobile applications.
