Abstract

The elastic interaction between a main crack and an inclined micro crack in a unidirectional fibre reinforced composite is studied. The Fredholm integral method and the pseudo-traction method proposed in isotropic cases are extended to treat the main-micro crack problems in orthotropic cases. The influence of orthotropic material constants on the interaction effect, i.e. the amplification effect or the shielding effect, is discussed in detail.
