Abstract
In magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF), magnetic field plays an important role in formation of flexible magnetic brush. This paper examines formation of efficient flexible magnetic brush for various configurations like N-N, N-S and with no magnet below workpiece (N-O). Experiments have been carried out for various configurations using unbonded magnetic abrasive and change in surface finish is evaluated. Magneto-static analysis has been carried out in ANSYS to determine magnetic flux density distribution across the work component surface for various configurations. Bonding media viscosity and quantity was optimised to obtain higher improvement in surface finish. It has been observed that change in surface finish is eight times more for N-S configuration compared to N-N configuration.
