Abstract

Abstract The results of probe and spectroscopic measurements of the multiarc large-area ion source (MAIS) plasma parameters (electron temperature, plasma density, plasma potential) are presented in the paper. The flat geometry MAIS comprises 180 discharge units in which the surface discharge along the polyethylene surface was used for production of the proton-emitting plasma. Total discharge current was varied in the range of 100–300A, pulse duration was τ ≍30 μs, voltage U = 10–20kV. Plasma parameters were found to be the following: electron temperature near the anode grid is 10–30eV, in the spark region ≥ 4eV. The density near the anode grid is of about 1011cm−3(it depends on the discharge current, radial coordinate, potential of the anode grid), in the spark region n e ≥ 5 × 1013cm −3. Plasma potential lies in the range of 50-70 V.
